for Bloomington City Council - District 1
Focused on what counts:
Bloomington is a fantastic place in which to grow up, live, learn, and work. My parents must have believed this, because, many years ago, they decided to raise their family here. So I was born and raised in Bloomington, attending Valley View Elementary, and graduating from Bloomington Kennedy. I then went on to earn my BA degree in Political Science and Regional Planning from Augsburg College.
Service has been an important value in my family. My father, the late London Lowman Jr., served with distinction in the U.S. armed forces. As a young man, I served with the Mayor’s Campaign for Bloomington, which was a lot of hard work and a great learning opportunity.
Recently, I was honored when two Bloomington mayors encouraged me to seek the opportunity to serve the first district of Bloomington on the city council. In running for this office, I am seeking to follow in the footsteps of my family, and of so many others who have served this great city of Bloomington.
Because I have grown up here, worked here, and represented Bloomington from here, I am very eager to become the independent voice of District One.
My first job was working as a bagger at a local grocery store, earning money to help pay for a trip to Florida with the Kennedy High School Marching Band. I represented Bloomington as a Rotary Scholar in Gothenburg Sweden, and, while in high school, served as a Planning Intern with the City of Bloomington during a land-use coding project.
While in college, I studied International Business, Community Development Corporations, and neighborhood organizations; I was selected as winner of the Marian Christian Justice Award ; and I was twice elected President and Chair of the West Bank Community Coalition.
I look forward to representing you in the council. If you have any questions, please give me a call 952.479.0832.
